A teenager weighing 61 kilograms at the age of 5. Sele Tenawo program on EBS. After I joined Hawassa Athletics Club, I used to participate in 5k and 10k competitions. My result was not bad. In 2019 I participated in the Women’s Great Ethiopian 5km race and finished fourth. In 2020, I was able to finish as the first runner-up in the 10-kilometer race and the second runner-up in the women’s 5,000-meter race.
I was happy with the result. I was interested in participating in track races. In 2019/20 the outbreak of COVID-19 caused many track races cancellation. Apart from that, there were several road races open for competition. After joining the national team and winning gold in the half marathon at the All Africa Games, I won my first half marathon in New Delhi, India. Then I continued to participate in various international road races.
The moment that I remember and that gave me a special feeling was when recruiters came to Bahir Dar. I was very nervous while we prepare to take the race. It was said that the athletes who won and were selected go to Addis Ababa and enter the academy. Besides that, when I represented Ethiopia in the All-Africa Games, I was scared because it was the first time I participated outside of representing my country. So, that was a memory that always stays with me.
